Solidarity with Our Elderly! Safya and Her Elderly Son Abdelkader
Safya is a blind elderly woman living with her son Abdelkader, who is also elderly and in poor health. They share a small rented room in Marshan, Tangier, and face unimaginable hardship every day.
Their heartbreaking situation was brought to light by the Instagram content creator brahim_vlog1 (link to the video), who visited them and shared a video of the conditions they live in. The video shows the deeply distressing reality: Safya, unable to care for herself or go to the toilet alone, wearing soiled clothes, and suffering from a stomach infection caused by rats eating from the same food she eats.
Despite her pain, Safya simply says, “We need food.” But the truth is—they need so much more.
Prior to the filming of the video, a kind-hearted woman named Naima, who is not a relative but someone with a big heart, stepped in to help. With very limited means, she has done everything she can to care for them. She contacted Brahim to raise awareness, and with the help of a few generous people, she managed to renovate their small room and improve their bathroom.
But their medical needs are overwhelming. Naima took Safya and Abdelkader to Akdital Hospital for urgent care, which saved their lives a bit but left them with a hospital bill of over 100,000 MAD. To date, 79,603 MAD is still unpaid.
Safya and Abdelkader continue to need:
Ongoing medical treatment
A proper medical bed
Clean clothing and hygiene items
How Your Support Can Help:
Pay off the remaining hospital debt
Purchase a medical bed
Provide clothing, food, and hygiene products
This is a call for solidarity, for humanity, and for giving our elderly the care and respect they deserve. They are not forgotten.
